This is an unusual obi - likely from a dance performance - since it features the characters from mythology and traditional noh theater.  It may seem like a maru obi since it is patterned on both sides but it is not the formal style that is normally associated with maru obi.

This playful han (meaning "half" - referring to half the normal width) obi is alive with charm, featuring bold woven portraits of Okame and Hyottoko, beloved traditional characters in Japanese folklore known for bringing good luck, humor and happiness.

The faces shimmer in metallic thread against a black background, accented with red polka-dotted kerchiefs and an interlocking diamond chain underneath. The diagonal gold stripes on the backside add a touch of theatrical flair. The design balances whimsy with elegance, making it a conversation starting piece for collectors and kimono enthusiasts alike.
