This listing is for a vintage Japanese chuya or chuuya style obi. This style is reversible with patterns on both sides, often in contrasting colors, as chuya means "day and night".

This vintage chuya obi beautifully balances bold artistry with subtle refinement. One side features a lively design of water waves, stylized landscapes, birds in flight, and cascades of blossoms in soft pastels and vivid red, suggesting the joy of springtime renewal.

The reverse side contrasts in elegant black silk, decorated with delicate embroidered floral motifs, allowing for versatility in styling between vibrant formal moods. The flowers are appear in just 36" of the "bow" end, not the entire length. With its dual personality, this obi captures the spirit of Japanese textile tradition while offering unique visual impact for wear or display.

Unfortunately, there is some blemishing from age and wear on the lighter side, see last photo.
