This listing is for a vintage Japanese chuya or chuuya style obi. This style is reversible with patterns on both sides, often in contrasting colors, as chuya means "day and night".

This vintage chuya obi offers two very different expression in one piece. On one side, folding fans unfurl across a dark brown background, woven in shimmering threads of turquoise, silver, and bronze, and accented with floral and geometric motifs that celebrate the richness of Japanese design. Look closely to see the woven kanoko shibori dots!

The reverse side reveals a playful contrast, featuring a vivid indigo blue checkered pattern with Buddhist auspicious charms and motifs printed (stenciled?) in purples and blues.
