Description

This listing is for a vintage Japanese maru-style obi. Maru are usually the most expensive version of an obi since they are 14" wide for the full length and patterned on both sides, even though one side will never be seen by the public. Maru obi are worn for the most formal occasions, such as weddings.

This obi is an antique style - possibly from the 1940s or earlier - with its bronze and olive tones and the small repeated design. We think the woven elements in green and gold are wakamatsu (young pine shoots), but they could also be florals, arrow feathers...? Look closely to see the gentle waves underneath.
