This listing is for a traditional Japanese work vest. This style was designed with a sleeveless cut that could be easily layered over other clothing while allowing freedom of movement. Often worn by laborers, tradesmen, farmers, and others engaged in physical work.

A charming vintage cotton vest sized for a small frame, combines an indigo ikat woven upper with softly blurred, curling wave-like forms and a contrasting striped lower section in charcoal, brown, muted pink, and purple. The kasuri weave gives the indigo pattern its distinctive feathered edges, while the flowing water-inspired design suggests movement, continuity, and resilience.

This vintage vest shows considerable signs of age, including fading and scattered blemishes, along with several seams that are in need of repair - see photos.
