This listing is for two joined (sewn) lengths of vintage Japanese cotton indigo. We aren't sure of its original use but today it is a collectible example of Japanese folk textile artistry valued for its craftmanship, indigo coloration, and striking visual impact.

Beautiful in its simplicity, this indigo remnant features a single bold noshi motif, a tied bundle of ribbon-like strips traditionally associated with celebration, longevity, and good fortune.

The two cotton panels are stitched together to form the long textile, while years of use have created dramatic variations in the indigo, with areas of soft fading, rubbing, and mottled wear that give the piece a wonderfully authentic wabi-sabi surface. It began as a humble household item and was well-used and likely well-loved, we hope it finds a new home where it will be appreciated.
