This listing is for a vintage Japanese futon cover or large household cloth - perhaps a furoshiki, though the fade patterning doesn't support that guess. These were often used for bedding or protective coverings, but today it is a collectible example of Japanese folk textile artistry valued for its craftmanship, indigo coloration, and striking visual impact.

Every stitch tells part of the story in this wonderfully timeworn indigo household wrapping cloth, assembled from five panels and covered with delicate sashiko stitching. Generations of practical boro repairs layer patches of indigo blue and warm checked cloth across the surface, creating an organic patchwork that beautifully embodies the Japanese wabi-sabi appreciation for age, use, repair, and imperfection.

Significant signs of age and use are present throughout, including extensive fading and color variation, staining and discoloration, small holes and worn areas, irregular edges, old repairs, and numerous boro patches in assorted fabrics. These imperfections are an integral part of the textile's history, character, and desirability.
