This listing is for a vintage Japanese futon cover or large household cloth. These were often used for bedding or protective coverings, but today it is a collectible example of Japanese folk textile artistry valued for its craftmanship, indigo coloration, and striking visual impact.

A wonderfully timeworn textile, this futon cover remnant combines deep indigo, soft white, and golden yellow in a bold geometric kasuri woven ikat pattern. Three stitched panels alternate framed bat motifs with crossed geometric designs.  Bats are a rare motif to find and they carry traditional associations with good fortune.

Signs of age are present with fading, blemishes, worn areas, and old boro patching give the cloth a beautifully authentic wabi-sabi character. It began as a humble household item and was well-used and likely well-loved, we hope it finds a new home where it will be appreciated.
