This is a han obi - half the width of the standard obi. ("Han" means "half" in Japanese.) But it is patterned on both sides, like a maru obi.  We know that this came from the costume collection of a traditional Japanese dancer, so it was meant for the stage. 

It just shimmers with holiday cheer, this luminous vintage obi, woven in a glowing palette of pale gold and champagne. The delicate paisley pattern curls across the surface like drifting winter whirls, each element highlighted with metallic threads that catch the light beautifully.

This half-width obi adds an elegant finishing touch to kimono ensembles and makes a striking decorative accent for tables, shelves, or creative displays.
