This listing is for a full bolt of traditional Japanese fabric intended to be made into an obi sash. These bolts are wonderfully versatile (and reversible!) - they can be tied as a kimono belt, unrolled as an elegant table runner, or repurposed into entirely new creations.

Bold orange and shimmering silver give this reversible woven obi fabric a striking graphic look with plenty of vintage character. Large bamboo stalks sweep diagonally across the fabric, their segmented joints and loosely textured detailing giving the traditional motif a distinctly modern, almost abstract quality, while scattered geometric accents break up the ground.

Bamboo is an enduring symbol of resilience, strength, and flexibility, making the dramatic scale especially fitting for this confident design.

The design is woven in reverse on the opposite side, offering a second variation of the pattern. The pattern is continuous and the full length, so although offered as fabric, the piece could also be used as an obi.

Signs of age are present, including an occasional blemish and visible fold line.

The fabric is a substantial weave that is both pliable and sturdy – perfect tied into a bow at the back of a kimono, and just as perfect as a table runner or wall décor. Plenty of fabric to convert into home décor (pillows!) or an elegant jacket or coat…?
