This listing is for a full bolt of traditional Japanese fabric intended to be made into a nagoya obi sash. See below for more about nagoya obi.

A glowing orange background sets the stage for a richly woven autumn landscape of maple leaves and a graceful arched bridge. The design layers dense clusters of momiji (maple leaves) in gold, bronze, russet, orange, and muted gray around the pale bridge, with metallic threads giving the scene a luminous, almost gilded quality. Maple leaves are a classic symbol of autumn and the fleeting beauty of the changing seasons, while the bridge adds a sense of journey and passage through the landscape.

Long, exposed supplementary threads remain visible across the reverse of the woven motifs, revealing how the intricate multicolored design was constructed.  The original tags and seals confirm that this was woven at the Juraku weaving studio, which was established in 1930, was certified by the Nishijin Textile Association and was one of the premier independent weaving companies.

This bolt is laid out in the traditional nagoya obi format: 67" of plain fabric that would be the backside of the obi, followed by a 12" decorative section (bow), 29" plain fabric, another 6" decorative section, and finishing with another 75" of plain fabric.

The fabric is a thick weave that is both pliable and sturdy – perfect for being tied into an elaborate bow at the back of a kimono, and just a perfect as table or wall décor. Plenty of fabric to convert into home décor (pillows!) or an elegant jacket or coat…?

A nagoya obi is a semi formal obi with a partially sewn structure, featuring a wide decorative element at the bow end and a smaller one on the narrower belt section. This bolt has not yet been sewn into the nagoya style but the patterning is set to do so.
