We create our Japanique Tapestries by upcycling what we can when other sections of the garment are beyond repair or rescue. This listing is for a wall hanging tapestry made salvaged from a vintage obi belt.

A quiet, theatrical moment unfolds against a rich plum-purple background where a single kimono-clad character raises a fan in a poised, deliberate gesture. This design draws from traditional Japanese performing arts, where figures like this often symbolize grace, discipline, and storytelling through movement. The gold trees behind the figure add a sense of stage or seasonal setting, echoing themes of fleeting beauty and refined elegance.

It comes ready to hang with a sturdy cardboard rod (formerly the cardboard core of a kimono fabric bolt) and cording - both easily removable and replaceable to suit your space.

Our Japanique Tapestries transform salvaged imagery from kimono, haori, or obi into striking displays that highlight the original artistry, including dye work, embroidery, hand painting, and woven patterns. These textiles preserve history while fitting beautifully into modern spaces. No two are alike, each one carries its own story, texture, and character.
