Salvaged from the lower portion of a once grand furisode or kakeshita kimono, this series of fabric panels offer a spectacular sweep of color, texture, and intricate handwork ready for a new life.  (The upper portion was badly discolored, sadly.)

A richly embroidered phoenix spreads its elaborate golden plumage among flowering plum branches and stylized pine, set against a luminous ivory silk that drifts into soft coral pink. Beneath it all, a woven jacquard of chrysanthemums within geometric tortoiseshell hexagons adds another layer of pattern and sheen. The phoenix is an auspicious symbol of virtue, renewal, and good fortune, while pine represents longevity and plum blossoms perseverance and the promise of spring.

With its large-scale embroidery and beautifully patterned silk, this piece would be especially striking framed as textile art, incorporated into a wall hanging or pillow, or carefully repurposed into smaller art, fashion, or mixed-media projects.

Signs of age are present throughout, including scattered discoloration, staining, and other blemishes consistent with the fabric's vintage history and its salvage from a damaged wedding kimono.
