This listing is for a full bolt of traditional Japanese fabric intended to be made into an obi sash. These bolts are wonderfully versatile (and reversible!) - they can be tied as a kimono belt, unrolled as an elegant table runner, or repurposed into entirely new creations.

Bold orange and shimmering silver create a wonderfully graphic, modernist take on a classic botanical design. Slender branching stems are punctuated by long, sharply pointed leaves, strongly suggesting young bamboo, rendered entirely through the weave with an almost brush-painted simplicity. Bamboo is traditionally associated with resilience, strength, and flexibility, while the reversible weave dramatically swaps the orange and silver grounds for two distinct looks.

The fabric is a continuous full length and could be used as an obi.

Signs of age are present, including a visible fold line.

The fabric is a substantial weave that is both pliable and sturdy – perfect tied into a bow at the back of a kimono, and just as perfect as a table runner or wall décor. Plenty of fabric to convert into home décor (pillows!) or an elegant jacket or coat…?
