This listing is for a full bolt of traditional Japanese fabric intended to be used as a hakata-style obi sash. These bolts are wonderfully versatile (and reversible!) - they can be tied as a kimono belt, unrolled as an elegant table runner, or repurposed into entirely new creations.

Bold color and graphic pattern give this vintage obi fabric a wonderfully modern, mid-century look. A rich teal background is crossed by fine dark pinstripes, while the center is anchored by a wide woven botanical band in warm copper with a pinkish cast and narrow yellow-gold borders. The stylized mirrored leaves and floral forms grow along a central stem in a rhythmic, almost architectural pattern, with the woven construction creating subtle changes in texture and sheen. The design reverses to offer an alternate presentation of the same woven pattern.

The fabric is a continuous full length and could be used as an obi. The silk is thinner that what you might expect from an obi, but still a substantial weave that is both pliable and sturdy – perfect tied into a bow at the back of a kimono, and just as perfect as a table runner or wall décor. Plenty of fabric to convert into home décor (pillows!) or an elegant jacket or coat…?
