This is a vintage kimono jacket, called a haori, made for a man. Learn more about this type of garment below. 

Like a landscape painting tucked inside, this haori reveals a dramatic woven waterfall tumbling through rugged cliffs and golden foliage, rendered in shimmering gold, silver, brown, cream, and black. Beside it, flowing calligraphy on a brocade panel appears to be a classical-style poetic inscription, complementing the waterfall with imagery of nature and changing seasons.

The black outer silk is restrained, decorated with five leaf-trio family crests.

The lining of men's haori jackets often depict a scene or motif that was of special interest to the original owner. We often display these jackets inside out to show the lining, and they could be worn this way - inside out - as well; a style that is becoming trendy among Japanese youth.
