This listing is for an underkimono - called a "juban" in Japanese - which would be worn under a man's kimono. Learn more about this type of kimono below.

Bold and modernist, this men’s underkimono pairs smoky gray with a dramatic black undulating band and scattered white shibori medallions. The black band appears to have been created with resist dyeing, its softly jagged, feathery edges showing the irregular character of the bound resist, while the circular motifs use kanoko (fawn spot) shibori dots arranged into geometric rings, stars, petals, and scrolling forms. The contrast between the sweeping organic band and precise circular geometry gives the design a striking graphic quality.

Signs of age are present, including a few scattered blemished areas.

Juban often feature designs that reflect the interests of their owner but are rarely seen in public since they are layered underneath a kimono. Just an inch or two of the over-collar is visible, though you may catch a glimpse of the sleeve edge at the wrist. Juban make great casual robes.

This kimono does not come with an obi/belt/sash, but we do make simple cotton sashes that can be added as an option when you order. We will choose a color that goes well with it.
