This listing is for a vintage Japanese casual summer kimono and obi combination. These are casual, unlined, and light weight kimono that could be worn during the humid days of summer.

At first glance this kimono appears solid black, however -  step closer to see an intricate garden of blue blossoms revealed in an ikat woven design. The subtle blue on black suggests moonlit shadows cast over a field of flowers. Look even closer to see an occasional red accent in the weave.

The weave has a nubby texture. and was created with the ikat technique - where the threads are bound and dyed in a pattern before they are woven so that the image emerges on the loom. It's a fascinating and time-consuming process that takes great skill from many artisans. See video below about ikat is done.

We paired this kimono with a vivid yellow and black grid hanhaba (half width) obi - a pattern reminiscent of the golden glow from lantern light through a shoji screen. A nice contrasting match to the nighttime blooms in the kimono. This obi is 6 inches wide and 12 feet long.

See the videos below to learn how to dress in kimono.
