This listing is for a vintage iromuji kimono that we will choose for you from dozens in our inventory. The sizing is fairly standard and will fit a small to medium frame. The length is longer than you might expect - see measurements - since the extra length is taken up at the waist under a sash.

These are all single color in pink or purple pastel tones0 with jacquard weave silks. Give us your preference for color when ordering and we'll do the best we can from the dozens we have in stock. The photos are examples only!

If you're going to wear this casually, you could add one of our simple cotton sashes (see option above).

If you're planning to display this, consider adding one of our wooden hanging rods (see option below description).

This style of kimono, called iromuji in Japanese, and is typical of what would be worn by a practitioner of chado – traditional Japanese tea ceremony. Aside from being in tune with the season and the age/status of the wearer, “tea ceremony kimono” are usually single color, tone-on-tone jacquard weaves. Iromuji might have a single crest at the back of the neck (this one does not) and very subtle design shading and would be worn with an obi of muted colors or design.

The importance of the single color and understated elegance is in keeping with the solemn celebration of the tea ceremony itself. The host/hostess wears a kimono that does not call attention to his or herself, so as to not detract from the ceremony. See the video below to learn about Japanese tea ceremony.
