This listing is for a traditional vintage furisode kimono - the most formal, long-sleeved style created for a young, unmarried woman.  See below for more detail.

A dramatic asymmetrical composition gives this furisode a wonderful sense of movement, with sweeping bands of coral pink, deep purple, sage green, silvery blue, and white resembling a large cresting wave across the silk. Chrysanthemums, plum blossoms, and paulownia emerge throughout in kanoko (fawn spot) shibori, embroidery, and gold couching, while a woven mirrored crane jacquard adds another layer of auspicious symbolism, including longevity, resilience, and good fortune.

The dramatic asymmetrical design, traditional handwork, and vivid red silk lining strongly point to this furisode dating from the Taisho period (1912-1926).

Signs of age are present, including light wear, minor spots, or subtle discoloration from age and use, see last photo(s).

Furisode are worn for formal events, such as Seijin-no-hi (Coming of Age Day, sometimes translated as Adults Day) in early January. Furisode are also worn for weddings, recitals, receptions, and other celebrations calling for formal attire. Note the long sleeves (furi = long, sode = sleeves) sometimes called "butterfly sleeves", which flow with grace when she gestures, attracting male attention!
