This listing is for a vintage Japanese haori (kimono jacket) that we modified slightly to allow for a roomier fit on larger frames.

This Oki Haori is a casual version of the kimono jacket, with a small repeated pattern of bamboo leaves and pine needles - two auspicious motifs in Japanese culture.  Bamboo is flexible and strong, while pine needles are a symbol of long life and endurance. Light cream motif against a mauvy-brown background.

The patterning was created using a katagami stencil, hand-carved on treated washi paper. See the video below for how these are made and used.

See last photo for detail on one blemish located on the left sleeve.  Still quite wearable - priced accordingly.

In our Oki Haori Line (oki means "big" in Japanese) of modified haori jackets, we open up the gusset and underarm seams and then re-attached them using every inch of the salvage seam edges. (See photo for detail.) This yields up to an additional 6" of width in the waist, hip, and bust measurements.

Whereas unmodified haori tend to be more narrow at the bust because the side gussets gradually narrow from waist to bust, our Oki Haori do not taper at the bust, which gives you more coverage in front. Compare your measurements to those given, keeping in mind that the measurements we give are the haori measurements, not a recommendation for the wearer's measurements.
