COME TO KYOTO WITH US!

May and October 2025 - REGISTRATION OPEN!

Our tours are held entirely in Kyoto, where you'll learn about Japanese textiles and culture, shop at the temple markets, meet traditional artisans, and tour one of the most beautiful and exotic cities in the world!

Meet in Kyoto (airfare and transportation to/from the airport is on your own but we can help with recommendations), and yes, the tour is held entirely in and around Kyoto! Is it enough? Nope. Most of our guests arrive early and extend their stay to see more of Kyoto or explore other parts of Japan.

Maximum group size is only ten members to ensure the best experience possible.

Itinerary Activities

  • Three textile workshops - try your hand at a traditional technique
  • Five artisan studio visits - an intimate glimpse
  • One handicraft market - inspiring up-cycling
  • One temple flea market – Toji Temple Kobo-San Market
  • Two free days - we can help with arrangements
  • Selected heritage sites

How Much is it?

$4900 ($500 deposit and the balance in two payments) This does not include airfare or airport transfers - but we're happy to help with suggestions.

What's Included?

  • Nine nights at a western-style hotel (The Oakwood Oike Hotel)
  • Single occupancy room with private bath
  • All workshop, tour activities, and entrance fees
  • Breakfast every day, lunch on tour days
  • Welcome Dinner and Farewell Dinner
  • Transportation during the tour
  • Professional Japanese guides
  • Prep materials and other goodies
  • Memory book after the tour

NB: The activities, dates, pace and schedule are the same for our tours each year. The 13th-22nd dates are chosen to coincide with the monthly markets.

CAUTION!

This trip is not for everyone.

  • If you're flexible, healthy, eager to visit Japan, and normally not inclined to travel in groups (but welcome the chance to meet like-minded others) - this trip could be what you've been waiting for!
  • If you have dietary restrictions, physical limitations, or a low tolerance for the unfamiliar, this may not be the right trip for you.
  • You'll have two free days to explore in and around Kyoto on your own, so an ability and enthusiasm for setting off on our own is a plus.
  • We can't emphasize enough the need for guests to be sufficiently fit to do the daily walking. Guests must be able to walk unassisted at a standard 3-mile/hour pace for up to an hour at a time and be able to get up and down unassisted for floor seating.

  • While we can usually accommodate food preferences, we are not able to guarantee meals that are vegan, gluten-free, or MSG-free, so we may not be able to accept guests with strict food sensitivities. Guests must also be able to eat with chopsticks.
  • Guests are expected to have a basic knowledge of Japanese customs and etiquette, and become familiar with basic greetings, counting, and polite speech prior to arrival.
  • We ask guests to be punctual, flexible, compassionate, attentive and respectful of group dynamics.
