This listing is for a vintage Japanese wedding kimono (uchikake). An uchikake is draped over top of a kakeshita kimono, left open without an obi, and has a padded at the hem as it was once meant to trail across the floor behind the bride.

This uchikake is white with a rainbow of pastel accents an iridescent shimmer that adds to the elegance.  The motif is summertime florals - peonies (botan), plum blossoms (ume), mums (kiku), iris (hanashobou) and more! The florals spill over from imperial carts (hanaguruma) and floating in between are ragged-edged squares that symbolize precious silk remnants that were collected in the Edo Period.

Skillful, elaborate embroidery as well as painted imagery really bring this kimono to life.  Really, it's stunning.

As with many light-colored kimono there is a small light blemish on the front sleeve - see last photo - but nothing that distracts from the incredible artistry.

These wedding kimono are a gorgeous display of Japanese art and culture and can be an heirloom treasure handed down generation after generation. View the slide show below to be amazed at these elaborate works of artistry!

If you plan to display this kimono, we offer sturdy wooden rods for hanging - see options in the tab below. And see the video below for how these are worn or displayed as well as how Japanese embroidery is done.
