This listing is for a vintage Japanese wedding kimono (uchikake). An uchikake is draped over top of a kakeshita kimono, left open without an obi, and has a padded at the hem as it was once meant to trail across the floor behind the bride. 

This kimono features a cream silk background with golden tatewaku (rising steam) pattern that looks like flowing, vertical waves. This sets the stage for dozens of rounded cranes woven in red, gold, and silver. Look closely to see the pine branches were subtly woven between waves.

As with many light-colored kimono there are a few very small, very light blemishes - see last photo - but nothing that distracts from the incredible artistry.

These wedding kimono are a gorgeous display of Japanese art and culture and can be an heirloom treasure handed down generation after generation. View the slide show below to be amazed at these elaborate works of art!
