We create these tapestries by salvaging a portion of a kimono when other sections of the garment are beyond repair or rescue. This listing is for a wall hanging tapestry made from a man's underkimono. 

A bold character emerges across this piece, capturing the expressive presence of a shishimai lion dance head mid-performance. This tapestry features hand-painted elements paired with soft shibori cloud forms, creating a layered scene that feels both playful and ceremonial. The lion, with its animated expression and flowing mane-like details, is traditionally associated with protection, good fortune, and driving away evil spirits, often seen in festival dances meant to bless homes and communities. 

There are signs of age showing a few blemishes consistent with the textile's vintage origin, adding to its character and history, see last photo.

The tapestry has a sewn sleeve across the top to accommodate up to a one-inch hanging rod. (You can add one of our 30" display rods through the gray tab below.)
