This listing is for a vintage Japanese kimono and obi combination.

The kimono features a design of tiny woven crosses arranged to create a background of layered clouds.  Scattered on top is a series of floating florals in a soft pastel palette.

The pattern is created using the ikat technique, where the silk threads are bound and dyed in a pattern before they are woven so that the images emerge on the loom. It's a fascinating and time-consuming process that takes great skill from many artisans. See video below about ikat is done.

The obi is the show-stealer of this combination.  It is a soft silk in black with a pattern of medallions filled with several different traditional motifs.  Two of the larger medallions feature fu dogs (protectors) or jumping koi (perseverance) - and these two are repeated twice.

This obi is fukuro style - wide the entire length with a solid-colored backside and about a one-meter solid area on the front (which would be hidden as the underlayer of the obi when worn.  This obi is quite soft, not stiff.

See the videos below to learn about obi and how to dress in kimono.
