This listing is for a vintage Japanese kimono and obi combination.

The kimono is a fine cream silk with an intricately woven grid in vintage colors that recall the 1970s (to us, anyway).  Those thin lines and tiny stars were created with the ikat technique, where the silk threads are bound and dyed in a pattern before they are woven so that the images emerge on the loom. It's a fascinating and time-consuming process that takes great skill from many artisans - especially in this case, which is a double ikat, meaning that both the warp and weft threads were dyed in this way. See video below about ikat is done.

The obi features the same vintage colors - remarkable! - but against a black background. What might be a stylized kanji character is woven in cream across the main bow section - intriguing! The obi is a modified nagoya style, though where it would normally be folded and sewn to a half width for the belt portion, it is only sewn this way for a few inches at the tail end.

See the videos below to learn about obi and how to dress in kimono.
