This listing is for a vintage Japanese kimono and obi combination.

The kimono is a very dark steely blue silk with a tone-on-tone jacquard weave of arching, crisscrossing lines. At the bodice, sleeve and hem are beautifully painted delicate florals.

The obi is a beautiful as the kimono.  It features a series of appliqued gourds - an auspicious symbol of wealth and happiness, as they were once used to carry valuables - including sake!  The decorative gourds (hyotan) are pieced with other blue-tone fabrics and the zigag stitching is a visible feature of the design.  Three gourds at the bow end, one at the belt section.  The cream background silk has a matte, raw silk feel.

It is a nagoya style obi, which have a specialized shape - folded and sewn to a 6-7" width for the portion that wraps around the waist but left wide (13-14") for about one yard at the end which would be tied into an elaborate bow. The featured motif appears in this wide section with a smaller, modified aversion of it placed to appear at the front when the obi is tied.
