This listing is for a vintage Japanese maru-style obi.  Maru are usually the most expensive version of an obi since they are 14" wide for the full length and traditionally patterned on both sides, even though one side will never be seen by the public. (This obi is NOT patterned on the backside though.) Maru obi are worn for the most formal occasions, such as weddings.

This obi features a beautiful houou bird (phoenix) surrounded in a snowflake border with florals, momiji (maple leaves), and tachibana (wild citrus fruit). Don't miss the tsuzumi (traditional drum) nestled within large florals. Beautiful and vibrant colors including shimmering gold, pink, blue, orange, and green.

The backside is a cream colored silk rather than a repeat of the front side brocade.  Perhaps there was damage on that side so it was replaced?.

If you need a display rod for your obi, you can add one at check out.

Unfortunately, there is a blemish, see last photo. This could be easily folded over when wearing and hard to notice as it blends with the overall color scheme.

See videos below for info about the different styles of obi as well as ways to display them.
