This listing is for a vintage Japanese furoshiki - a very handy, sturdy, multi-use wrapping cloth used in Japan.

Deep and calming, this vintage furoshiki brings a rich forest green tone that feels timeless and organic. A soft cream wisteria crest which symbolizes elegance, longevity, and good fortune in one corner. In the opposite corner is stylized characters that translate to Yamada which is likely the surname of the family or merchant who originally used this wrap.

There are some natural dye variations in the cotton cloth and signs of use, including some fading in the middle which adds character and authenticity.

35" x 37"

Artistic furoshiki (often silk) are traditionally used as gift wrap but also make creative wall or table displays. Furoshiki in solid colors or with printed patterns (often cotton or rayon) are more casual versions used for shopping, transporting goods, or storing items at home. These days furoshiki are popular as upcycled grocery totes or to carry whatever we used to carry in a non-recyclable plastic bag.
