This listing is for a traditional fukuro style obi. 

Radiating festive charm, this Japanese obi brings holiday magic to your table or wall decor with its vivid red shibori star hemp (asanoha) pattern bordered by soft pearl-toned silk. The hand tied shibori creates a raised, puckered surface making it a captivating accent for display or wear.

The full surface - there are no blank sections as we usually find on a fukuro obi - is richly decorated, creating an uninterrupted and dramatically eye-catching design from every angle. Look closely and you'll see evidence of painstaking handwork in the the tiny needle holes still visible along the edges where the fabric was gathered tightly to resist the red dye. 

The backside features its exposed lining - a solid, cream-colored fabric.  The front fabric wraps around the to the back to create a nice, finished edge.

There are signs of use and age as some of the edges show blemishing, see last photo.

The width is slightly narrower at 11" rather than the typical 12-14" width. The narrow width, lack of blank section, and bold design, suggests this obi was made for a performance.
