This listing is for a vintage Japanese furoshiki - a very handy, sturdy, multi-use wrapping cloth used in Japan.  

Deep and earthy, this vintage furoshiki brings a grounded forest feel with its rich evergreen color and classic wisteria crest. This cloth has a center seam as it is two panels of cotton pieced together - with hand stitching.

There are some natural dye variations in the cotton cloth and signs of use with fading towards the middle which adds character and authenticity. There is some mottling as well that you can see on the crest. The cotton has a more rustic texture and the handwork is inspiring.

Artistic furoshiki (often silk) are traditionally used as gift wrap but also make creative wall or table displays. Furoshiki in solid colors or with printed patterns (often cotton or rayon) are more casual versions used for shopping, transporting goods, or storing items at home. These days furoshiki are popular as upcycled grocery totes or to carry whatever we used to carry in a non-recyclable plastic bag.
