This listing is for a vintage Japanese furoshiki - a very handy, sturdy, multi-use wrapping cloth used in Japan.  A folded furoshiki can also be easily carried in a purse or backpack to provide a makeshift carrier for groceries or purchases.

This bold vintage furoshiki bursts with celebratory energy, featuring a sweeping white brushstroke of the kanji which translates to "longevity" or "congratulations". The deep orange-red background gives it a warm, festive presence that feels perfect for gifting or wrapping something meaningful. The silk is lightweight and drapes elegantly.

29" x 27"

Artistic furoshiki (often silk) are traditionally used as gift wrap but also make creative wall or table displays. Furoshiki in solid colors or with printed patterns (often cotton or rayon) are more casual versions used for shopping, transporting goods, or storing items at home. These days furoshiki are popular as upcycled grocery totes or to carry whatever we used to carry in a non-recyclable plastic bag.
