This listing is for a vintage Japanese kimono, obi, and obijime combination.

This richly textured kimono features an all-over motif of leafy foliage in a warm terracotta tone, woven against a cool gray-blue ground. Up close you can see the slight blur and softness of the edges, indicating that the pattern was woven using the ikat technique, where the silk threads are bound and dyed in a pattern before they are woven so that the images emerge on the loom. It's a fascinating and time-consuming process that takes great skill from many artisans. See video below about ikat is done.

The obi matches the terracotta hue and features Egyptian-inspired motifs including the ankh, lotus and bird, scepter, palm frond or fan, and falcon. This kind of cross-cultural textile design was especially popular in mid-20th-century Japan.

This is a fukuro obi - wide for the entire length, plain on the backside and a patterned design only on the front. There is a one yard "blank" section on the front, as is common with contemporary fukuro obi, where some cost can be saved by leaving it blank where the first wrap layer of the belt portion occurs, since it doesn't show to the public.

The obijime is a flat weave in pink.
