We create these tapestries by salvaging a portion of a kimono when other sections of the garment are beyond repair or rescue. This listing is for a wall hanging tapestry made from a woman's antique kimono.

A lively mix of bold color and layered motifs brings this piece to life with a strong, celebratory feel. This tapestry features overlapping fan shapes filled with florals, alongside stylized paulownia and pine elements, all set against a striking palette of red, yellow, black, and cream. Fans represent openness and good fortune, pine symbolizes longevity and resilience, and paulownia is associated with status and refinement, often linked to imperial and formal imagery.

The tapestry has a sewn sleeve across the top to accommodate up to a one inch hanging rod. (You can add one of our 30" display rods through the gray tab below.)

Our Japanique Tapestries offer new life to vintage Japanese textiles that might otherwise be deconstructed or trashed.  Each piece is thoughtfully salvaged from kimono, haori, or obi, then transformed into a striking display that highlights the original artistry, including dye work, embroidery, hand painting, and woven patterns. These textiles preserve history while fitting beautifully into modern spaces. No two are alike, each one carries its own story, texture, and character.
