We create these tapestries by salvaging a portion of a kimono when other sections of the garment are beyond repair or rescue. This listing is for a wall hanging tapestry made from a woman's kimono.

A soft, flowing arrangement of florals moves across this piece like a painted garden in motion. The design features irises, roses, and layered blossoms in shades of blue, purple, gray, and hints of blush, all set against a creamy ivory background. The composition has a hand-painted feel, with gentle shading and fine detailing, accented by touches of gold leaf that catch the light in subtle ways. The flowers seem to drift in a continuous flow, creating a sense of quiet movement rather than a fixed pattern. Irises are linked to protection and strength, while roses, though a later influence, often carry associations of beauty and refinement.

The tapestry has a sewn sleeve across the top to accommodate up to a one-inch hanging rod. (You can add one of our 60" display rods through the gray tab below.)

Our Japanique Tapestries offer new life to vintage Japanese textiles that might otherwise be deconstructed or trashed.  Each piece is thoughtfully salvaged from kimono, haori, or obi, then transformed into a striking display that highlights the original artistry, including dye work, embroidery, hand painting, and woven patterns. These textiles preserve history while fitting beautifully into modern spaces. No two are alike, each one carries its own story, texture, and character.
