This listing is for a vintage Japanese haori jacket that would have been worn on top of a vintage kimono on a chilly day.  

This haori is a bright red silk with gold and silvery florals encircled as they would be in a komon familly crest.  Ume (plum blossoms), botan (peonies), and kiku (chrysanthemums) float within their own circle, and each circles seems to float along - almost like bubbles bobbing in the breeze. The design was created with a katagami stencil - see video below for how these are made and used.

And there's a surprise!  A large pocket was sewn on the front left side, which suggests that this jacket was either converted from a kimono or the sleeves were shortened leaving extra silk to create a pocket.

The lining is even more striking, with a pattern of folding fans in bold red, yellow, and turquoise. 

Unfortunately, this haori does have a few small blemish spots, but we do not feel that they distract from the overall beauty of this jacket. See last photos.

Haori do not cross over or tie with a sash, like a kimono does - they are meant to be worn open to reveal a bit of what is worn beneath. An optional accessory is the haori himo - little woven ties that are hooked to the little fabric loops that you'll find on at the mid-front of the haori - but they are sold separately.
