This listing is for an antique Japanese kimono made for a young girl to wear.

This silk kimono features a bold interplay of spider mums (kiku) against a royal blue background. The curling petals of the spider mums radiate out amongst long stems and leaves in orange and cream. Look closely to see the occasional peony (botan).

In the background you see long slender stems and rounded leaves or blossoms in lighter purple. The layers here add an artistic flair that create an excellent display.

There are some discolorations - see last photos - but the layered design does a lot to obscure them.

Although we cannot give a specific age to this kimono, its coloring, design, silk type and red lining suggest that it is from pre-war Japan, as early as the 1920s but likely before the 1940s.

Japanese children's kimono make eye-catching displays in spaces too small to accommodate a full-sized kimono. We offer display rods (click the tab below) if you're going to display this kimono.
