This listing is for a vintage Japanese wedding kimono (kakeshita - a kimono layer under the uchikake). Kakeshita are belted with a formal obi and worn underneath an uchikake wedding kimono, but they are no less sophisticated and elegant. Kakashita are typically lighter weight, with a lighter padding at the hem, a yuzen-dyed rather than woven fabric, and patterning that may have a "less patterned" area at the waist where the obi would be tied.

This kakeshita is simply breath-taking.  We love the true-red and turquoise color combination.  The mid-section is an abstract red shape filled with gray plum blossoms in silhouette.  The hem and shoulders are white with bright orange flowers with deep green or blue shaded leaves.  More flowers in blue, white and orange, and a soft pink shading behind them create a collage that keeps you looking. The turquoise lining on the inside as well as the sleeve trim makes such a great combination.

The pattern was created with the yuzen technique - a complicated stencil and brush-painted process that calls on dozens of skilled artisans to create.  Gold leaf edging to some of the elements adds even more interest and value.

If you plan to hang this kimono, we do offer wooden display rods in four colors - see tab at right. If you plan to wear this kimono and need a traditional obi, browse our Fukuro Obi for Sale page.
