This listing is for a vintage Japanese maru-style obi.  Maru are usually the most expensive version of an obi since they are 14" wide for the full length and patterned on both sides, even though one side will never be seen by the public. Maru obi are worn for the most formal occasions, such as weddings.

This obi is a spectacular piece of art. Masterfully woven in blue, cream, black, and brown to create this beautiful winter's night scene complete with thatched-roof village houses nestled in freshly fallen snow along the water's edge.

The weaving is a bit unique - less fine brocade and instead woven with wider, softer threads.
