Light and ethereal, this blue michiyuki creates a beautiful, layered effect, allowing its trailing grapevine design to appear and disappear through the semi-sheer fabric. The airy open weave varies in density, with wider lattice-like areas forming pale geometric shapes that reveal the grape leaves, curling vines, and tiny clusters of fruit beneath. The light, open weave is typically used for summer garments with its light and airy properties bringing a cooling effect.

Grapes traditionally suggest abundance, fertility, and the continuation of family. The partially concealed design gives the jacket an especially lovely sense of depth, almost as though the vines are seen through a veil.

Michiyuki are traditional Japanese overcoats designed for both function and polish, originally worn when stepping out, as reflected in the name, michi meaning “street” and yuki meaning “going out.” Most michiyuki have a distinctive square neckline, inner ties to keep the hemline neatly aligned, snap closures for a secure fit, and sometimes even a hidden pocket on the right front panel.
