Deep red and white sweep across this vintage michiyuki in energetic diagonal bands, giving the jacket a stylish graphic look. The stripes are formed from dense kanoko (fawn spot) shibori, with rows of tiny tied-resist squares shifting in width and direction to create a rippling effect across the surface.

Inside, the pale lining reveals a delightful surprise: colorful porcelain plates, bowls, and vases decorated with intricate floral and geometric designs, an unusual detail that gives the piece extra character.

Michiyuki are traditional Japanese overcoats designed for both function and polish, originally worn when stepping out, as reflected in the name, michi meaning “street” and yuki meaning “going out.” Most michiyuki have a distinctive square neckline, inner ties to keep the hemline neatly aligned, snap closures for a secure fit, and sometimes even a hidden pocket on the right front panel.
