This listing is for a vintage michiyuki jacket, meant to be worn over a kimono. To learn more about this type of garment read below.

Bright, playful, and full of movement, this michiyuki feels like a garden caught mid-bloom. Set against a softly speckled ground, vivid red blossoms, airy blue-green leaves, and pops of warm orange create a lively, confetti-like composition. The dye work has a hand-rendered quality with softly blurred edges that give the florals a floating, painterly effect. The scattered arrangement suggests spontaneity and joy, while the blossoms themselves symbolize renewal, beauty, and the fleeting nature of the seasons.

Hidden pocket in the front - perfect to hold glasses keys, or other light items.

There are a couple light blemishes, but they blend in with the speckled background, see last photo.

Michiyuki are traditional Japanese overcoats designed for both function and polish, originally worn when stepping out, as reflected in the name, michi meaning “street” and yuki meaning “going out.” Most michiyuki have a distinctive square neckline, inner ties to keep the hemline neatly aligned, snap closures for a secure fit, and sometimes even a hidden pocket on the right front panel. Worn over kimono to protect from weather and wear, michiyuki blend utility with refined style. Today, these jackets are used for layering pieces over dresses or denim, repurposed into unique textile projects, or displayed as home decor.
