A cascade of oversized fans unfolds across this rich purple haori, creating a bold design softened by the intricate texture of shibori. The pattern is worked in white kanoko, or "fawn spot," shibori, with countless individually bound dots forming dense fields behind fans accented by circles of varying sizes. Fans traditionally suggest expanding fortune and prosperity, making their open, spreading form an especially auspicious motif.

Signs of age are present, including some discoloration along the front sleeve seam, see last photo.

A woman's haori is a traditional Japanese jacket worn over a kimono, designed to provide both warmth and an added layer of formality.
