This listing is for a vintage Japanese haori jacket that would have been worn on top of a vintage kimono on a chilly day.  

This woman's haori jacket showcases the timeless artistry of shibori dyeing, with bold white ume (plum blossoms) and colorful accents of red, blue, and yellow scattered across a rich black silk background. The playful scattering recalls branches touched with early spring bloom, a classic motif symbolizing renewal, resilience, and beauty in adversity. Look closely to see the slight pucker and uneven edges of the shibori technique. The tone-on-tone diamond jacquard of the black silk catches the light with a slight glimmer.

Haori do not cross over or tie with a sash, like a kimono does - they are meant to be worn open to reveal a bit of what is worn beneath. An optional accessory is the haori himo - little woven ties that are hooked to the little fabric loops that you'll find at the mid-front of the haori - but they are sold separately.
