This listing is for a vintage Japanese furoshiki - a very handy, sturdy, multi-use wrapping cloth used in Japan.  

This silk furoshiki celebrates the 60th Anniversary of the establishment of Osaka Shoin Women's University in 1949.  The western-style building is Memorial Hall, which sits at the entrance to campus and is an icon of the college. The design was printed but has a hand-drawn quality. Pristine condition.

Artistic furoshiki (often silk) are traditionally used as gift wrap but also make creative wall or table displays. Furoshiki in solid colors or with printed patterns (often cotton or rayon) are more casual versions used for shopping, transporting goods, or storing items at home. These days furoshiki are popular as upcycled grocery totes or to carry whatever we used to carry in a non-recyclable plastic bag.
