This listing is for a unique woven panel of vintage indigo cotton with a design created with the kasuri (or ikat) technique. It is called e-gasuri when the design creates a picture of something rather than a geometric or abstract design.

The imagery is of hawks alternating with a diamond checkerboard and it repeats three times (three hawks, three diamonds).

This fabric is a dark blue indigo cotton with three perched hawks. A checkered diamond motif separates the hawks. See the video below about the indigo dyeing process.

The pattern was woven using the ikat technique, where the silk threads are bound and dyed in a pattern before they are woven so that the images emerge on the loom. It's a fascinating and time-consuming process that takes great skill from many artisans. See video below about ikat is done.

The inspiring designs, hand work, and the ageless beauty of vintage Japanese textiles make all the extra work so worthwhile. See video below for inspiration on upcycling vintage Japanese textiles.
