This listing is for a vintage Japanese furoshiki - a very handy, sturdy, multi-use wrapping cloth used in Japan.

This silk furoshiki features a golden yellow background with a group of Edo Period musicians - two carrying the huge taiko drum with a pole across their shoulders and two beating the drum. The men are all dressed traditionally in a similar fashion, perhaps on their way to a parade or festival. In the distance is a silhouette of a drum tower - either for a parade or the battlefield, with a mountain off in the distance.

Unfortunately, there is some wear along the edges and a light blemish, see last photo. These issues could be cut away if the furoshiki is used in a textile project.

Artistic furoshiki (often silk) are traditionally used as gift wrap but also make creative wall or table displays. Furoshiki in solid colors or with printed patterns (often cotton or rayon) are more casual versions used for shopping, transporting goods, or storing items at home. These days furoshiki are popular as upcycled grocery totes or to carry whatever we used to carry in a non-recyclable plastic bag. For more about furoshiki and ideas of how to wrap, watch the video below.

Furoshiki are typically a bit longer on one side than the other. See tabs below for more details about this particular furoshiki.
