This is a vintage kimono jacket, called a haori, made for a man. The lining of men's haori jackets often depict a scene or motif that was of special interest to the original owner.

The lining of this man's kimono jacket features a seaside scene that includes a house surrounded by trees and foliage, with boats off in the distance.  A small bridge extends over the water with a fishing boat floating underneath. The silk has an overall golden tint with shades of gray, green, blue, and brown.

The outer silk is a solid black with five formal ivy crests.

The scene is brush-painted with both delicate and rustic motifs.  The artist's red name stamp appears in the lover left corner.

There are blemishes on the sleeves - see photos - but this still would make a compelling display piece.

We display these haori inside out to feature the lining when it is unique. All of the stitching is hidden, so these jackets can normally be displayed or worn (in the West, at least) either way.
