This is a vintage Japanese casual kimono for a man. We know it's casual because it does not have any komon (family crests). These make great robes for leisurewear at home but can also make a statement if worn out to a party or special event.

This kimono features an intricately woven grid design in shades of brown. The pattern is created using the ikat technique, where the silk threads are bound and dyed in a pattern before they are woven so that the images emerge on the loom. It's a fascinating and time-consuming process that takes great skill from many artisans. See video below about ikat is done.

This kimono is lined in black. There is one blemish on the front (see last photo) but it blends well with the fabric and might be covered with an obi or belt worn traditionally (low on the hips).

Sizing for men's vintage kimono is very limited since they were originally made for Japanese men, who typically had slender builds and an average height of 5'7". Taller, slender-to-medium build men will be able to wear these kimono but will find the sleeves ending between elbow and wrist and the hem ending somewhere on the shin. See the video below for details on how to put on a man's casual kimono.

This kimono does not come with an obi/belt/sash, but we do make simple cotton sashes that can be added as an option when you order. We will choose a color that goes well with it.

If you'd like to display the kimono, we offer hanging rods in five colors (brown, black, natural, white, and red) - see the Add a Display Rod? tab below.
